From farther down the Valley, Mr. Garstang ‘radiates progressive ideas and Democratic politics’:
“The US Military budget for 2007 is $532.8bn. This excludes nuclear weapons research and production, and also exludes the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq ($120bn for 2007). Who gets this money?”
“The United Nations has estimated that for less than one tenth of that budget, clean water, adequate food, sanitation, and basic education could be provided to every person on the planet. (See the United Nations Development Program.) That money would not, of course, go into the coffers of the arms industry.”
With 6.6 billion people on earth, that’s almost $100 per person ($653 ÷ 6.6 = $98.91) and one-tenth would be $9.89 each.
$10 per person. Per year.
For food, water and education.
Isn’t America great? Where else can someone like this not only survive into adulthood, but be allowed to vote too?
